“If I cannot have respect， if I cannot be treated as their equal， then I at least want Oak to see that I have as much right as he does to this quest， more reasons to hate Lady Nore， and the power to stop her。” I went into this book feeling both giddy and terrified that it may disappoint me。 I was so worried that Oak would be a knock off Cardan， but he was not。 In fact， I loved Oaks character， I love the way Holly painted him as a charming and handsome Prince with an unseen dark side。 I liked tha “If I cannot have respect， if I cannot be treated as their equal， then I at least want Oak to see that I have as much right as he does to this quest， more reasons to hate Lady Nore， and the power to stop her。” I went into this book feeling both giddy and terrified that it may disappoint me。 I was so worried that Oak would be a knock off Cardan， but he was not。 In fact， I loved Oaks character， I love the way Holly painted him as a charming and handsome Prince with an unseen dark side。 I liked that I could still feel some of his immaturity as well as kindness with just a bit of cruelty from his youth。 I was pleasantly surprised with the main character as well， Suren had Jude’s determination and strength as well as her burning never ending rage。 I could also see a bit of Taryn’s eternal fear in her。 The story was interesting enough， I didn’t struggle to read it， the romance was fine。 I was interested in it， although I don’t think anything will live up to Cardan and Jude’s story。 The story was undeniably unique while still honoring the original trilogy， I can’t wait to see where this story goes in the next book。 Was it as good as the cruel prince？ No。 Was it extremely enjoyable and fun？ Yes。 。。。more

This book was definitely not what I expected but I liked it。 It was a bit slow in the beginning and nothing much happened but the last 100 pages were really good。 I did really enjoy Oak and Wren and all the characters and I’m interested to see how they develop in the second book。 I’m really excited to read the second book after that ending and I hope Jude and Cardan make an appearance。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 I was so excited to hear this was out this year。The Folk of the Air trilogy was the reason I started reading again。It was interesting to see a different take on this world from a different perspective。I initially enjoyed seeing the development of Oak and Wren， however that quickly dissipated as the story went on and I felt she trusted him a little too quickly。 I loved Cardan and Jude so much because she never fully trusted him and so when he stabbed her in the back （several times） she odtened ex I was so excited to hear this was out this year。The Folk of the Air trilogy was the reason I started reading again。It was interesting to see a different take on this world from a different perspective。I initially enjoyed seeing the development of Oak and Wren， however that quickly dissipated as the story went on and I felt she trusted him a little too quickly。 I loved Cardan and Jude so much because she never fully trusted him and so when he stabbed her in the back （several times） she odtened expected it。 Wren just seen a little too wrapped up in Oak。However， I fully enjoyed the ending and I cannot wait to see where the story goes next。 。。。more

I’m not sure you should come to my reviews for a critical analysis on anything Holly Black writes。 I’m unabashedly in love with her writing style and the world she creates。 The Stolen Heir was a much-welcomed escape back into Elfhame。 Holly is the queen of Faerie and I am eagerly awaiting the final dark-twisty installment to Oak & Suren’s story。 Especially after that ending！！！！

3。5 stars。Okay， let me start by saying that I was very excited for this book because I LOVED The Folk of the Air。 Obviously I’m obsessed with Jude & Cardan and was beyond ready to be back in the world of Faerie。 However， once I cracked this open I realized that I had to completely separate Wren and Oak from Jude and Cardan。 I think that part is truly important in order to enjoy this book。The first half was really slow for me。 Wren is so self-depreciating and Oak comes off as spoiled， reckless ye 3。5 stars。Okay， let me start by saying that I was very excited for this book because I LOVED The Folk of the Air。 Obviously I’m obsessed with Jude & Cardan and was beyond ready to be back in the world of Faerie。 However， once I cracked this open I realized that I had to completely separate Wren and Oak from Jude and Cardan。 I think that part is truly important in order to enjoy this book。The first half was really slow for me。 Wren is so self-depreciating and Oak comes off as spoiled， reckless yet still charming。 Once I surpassed the halfway mark though things definitely picked up for me。 I started piecing some things together and made my own theories。 I ended up being correct but the way HB executed everything surprised me。 Wren is definitely no Jude but she is in her own league。 She is so full of hurt and constantly refers to herself as “love-starved” that I obviously cannot help but root for her。 Oak is a little charmer， and honestly pretty funny。 There were some moments where I genuinely laughed out loud。 Specifically in chapter 8， and if you’ve read that much then you probably know what I’m referring to。 The reason I only gave this 3。5 stars is because I was struggling through the first half and there were some things that were kind of lack-luster。 The romance between Wren and Oak is a VERY minor sub-plot I think through out。 However， I really think that book 2 is going to be great。 I think she set up for it really well， and I’m hoping that our High Queen & High King will finally make an appearance。 Definitely go into this with minimal expectations。 It’s very slow to start and most of the action is saved for the end。 You also HAVE to completely separate these two from “Jurdan”。 Now we wait for #2’s announcement… 。。。more
